Margot Baird
I endeavour to depict landscapes symbolically rather than literally. The landscapes are constructed and deconstructed; detail is minimalized, abstracted & reconfigured. Colour is all important in conveying a sense of time and place. My larger works on canvas are often textural & exemplify the techniques of a painter who is also a printmaker, the multi layering & incising of the paint.
My work often combines a hard edge defined area either surrounded by or encompassing a very painterly area. My artist practice encompasses the narrative element often surveying the footprint left by nature and man as narrated by time, both environmentally and socially.
